John graduated from Wake Forest University with an undergraduate degree in political science and philosophy in 1992, heavily focused on legal issues and the historic development of the law. An avid writer throughout college prepared him well for the heavily writing intensive demands of law school. John graduated from the University of Richmond Law School in 1992 and immediately began his career advocating for and representing individuals in the community surrounding Danville, Virginia. After demonstrating a strong ability to try cases, John joined the prestigious firm of Gentry Locke in Roanoke, Virginia, where he continued his litigation practice, handling insurance defense, plaintiff's personal injury cases and worker's compensation. His career developed and allowed him to work and learn from some of the best attorneys in Virginia over the course of his career, helping him grow and develop. John started his own firm with Stuart Pearson in 2003 and together, they handled cases for over a decade. John's practice then included an appointment to the bench and a subsequent return to private practice. John continues to handle matters for individuals at every level of court in Virginia.
